Herbs

It’s March and it’s time to get your body ready for more activity in the Spring. With longer days approaching you will hopefully be spending more time outside and engaged in physical activity than what is typical during the Winter.

To make your body strong and to help keep up with increased physical demands of warmer weather, our Herb of the Month is Morinda.

According to Chinese Medicine, Morinda is a great herb for strengthening the bones and getting you physically ready for lots of summer fun and activity. Perfect for athletes and physically active people.

  • It supports tendons, bones, knees, and legs
  • It also tonifies weak body tissue,
  • Increases resistance to diseases

Benefits For Just About Everyone!

The root of this native Chinese herb is widely recognized and used for its medicinal value and its nutritional content.

In Chinese, Morinda root is called ‘never-withering-and-falling’ because it is a creeping vine that hangs on persistently and denotes longevity.

Morinda is mild in its nature, so safe for everyone to take. Add it to your smoothies or shakes, or mix it with warm water and drink as a tea!

More Ways to Prepare your Body for Spring

As the weather warms up, it’s important to re-evaluate other practices as well. Here are a couple of our favorite suggestions to “spring clean” internally:

  • Enjoy lemon water first thing in the morning to stimulate your organs and digestive system. Lemon can help if you have excess water retention due to too much sodium.
  • Drink plenty of good quality spring water. Staying hydrated is very important in warmer weather.
  • Avoid sugars and processed foods. Focus on eating nutritionally dense foods, including plenty of fresh greens and vegetables. Warmer weather brings more fresh produce, so take advantage of those farmers markets opening up!
  • Choose healthy fats like coconut oil and avocados. Saturated fats are actually a really important part of a balanced diet.
  • Make your body sweat! Getting exercise is easier in warmer weather so enjoy the great outdoors and get that blood flowing.
